10 pieces of Animation Art YOU should never buy!
| 1) Lion King Movie premiere program printed
cels- These have been described as cast of characters Lion king
sericels. First it's not a sericel......no ink is on the piece, it's a
color copy on acetate. Also the claim that the program was only sold at
Radio City in New York is really not true. It was sold in every major city
in the US and Europe. The program with print inside is worth $20.
2) Teenage Ninja Turtles Cels. These pieces have a huge scandal behind them. They were released and selling for $150 to $200 in Galleries around the country. The distribution company went out of business and the pieces were liquidated for pennies on the dollar. Most of the hundred of thousands cels available were sold at "Toys R Us" for $5 a piece. Galleries got burned with worthless stock and anybody who bought one now hates themselves. just stay away from these guys, no collector who's proud of their collection would have these pieces hanging on there walls. 3) Mickey and Minnie cels from Soda pop commercials from the 80s 4) Any cels of Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Baby Mickey and Dumbo from the 1980s. A company called Film Fair produced animated commercials. these were mostly for the South America and Disney did not make them. These cels are off color and model and the Film Fair was not allowed to sell them off but they did anyway. The company went broke and the cels flooded the market. 5) Donald Duck cels for a Epcot movie called "Careers". Very popular on the "Cruise Ship" circuit but again these items are truly worthless. that's why they're sold on cruise ships. Once you're off the boat, you discover what they are an you can't fine the auctioneer. If you do find them there's no way to get your money back because the piece is sold "as is". 6) Any 1970's Jetsons, Why? there were no Jetsons in the 1970s. Hanna Barbera Studios produced "only" 19 original episodes in 1961 & 62. Most of the other Jetson cels (with xerox ink lines) were produced in 1983 & 85 and are worth Far less then the originals in the 1960s. 7) Any Roger Rabbit, Little Mermaid cels without Disney seals on them. The cels were only issued by Disney. If they don't have Disney seals on them then they are STOLEN or fake. Why would you want them in your collection. 8) Winnie the pooh cels from the educational shorts or anything from "Seasons". These pieces are totally inferior. These shorts were produced OUTSIDE the company are "off model". These pieces have no real resell value of any kind and are really ugly. 9) Stay away from color model cels and publicity cels, while some real ones exist most are fakes that have been copied out of Hanna Barbera art books. You may want to get a second opinion on these before buy one. 10) NEVER purchase animation art on Cruise Ship Auction. The venders are NOT approved by any Art distribution program. Even though they sell fine art pieces as well, it doesn't make them any more legitimate. These people are hard to find once you leave the ship. Pieces are not authenticated by ANY reputable dealer with strict experience in dealing with animation art. Without the knowledge of identify |
