What is a production cel?
Production Cels- These are the Animation Art cels actually used in the production of a cartoon. They can have either Xerographed or hand-inked outlines, and are hand-painted at the studio. These cels are one-of-a-kind pieces of art, and their rarity makes them highly sought after by collectors. Because these Animation Art cels were created to make an actual cartoon, each Animation Art cel is a component part of a larger movement. Different cels from the same scene may be more or less desirable depending on a variety of factors: size, profile and expression of the character, any damage to inking or paint, and overall visual appeal.

Hand-painted Disney Production cel, hand signed by the voice of Donald Duck...Tony Anselmo. Hand painted production cel of Donald Duck. A very large image of Don that fills the center of the cel. Ideal image of our favorite Duck. Unknown production in the 1980's. Signing was completed and witness by Tooncity staff members at a private signing. Tony hand signed each piece, this piece was signed "With Our Best Wishes Donald Duck & Tony Anselmo". Cel size is 14 x 11 inch and is in MINT condition. $275
A LARGE image of Jiminy Cricket, Original Hand Painted, hand Inked production cel from the 1950's "Mickey Mouse Club". Cel is hand painted and hand inked. Piece is know as a ART CORNER piece that was originally Sold at Disneyland in The Art Corner Store on Main Street USA. Cel size is 10 x 8 inches, with the Jiminy being 4x4 inches. FRAMED size is 14 x .5 x 12.5 inches. Piece has the Art Corner Certificate of Authenticity on the back. The Art Corner Label on the Back slightly torn but still there. "Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree" circa 1968. Key Matching Production Set-UP. This is the first time we see Winnie on Screen. He's practicing his "Up & Down" song so he can eat more Honey. Animation Art Cel size is 16x13 inches and comes with the MATCHING Animation Art production background from the movie. Animation Art Cel is also signed by Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston, the Key Animators for the movie and part of the "Nine Old Men" Disney Animators. Background is watercolor painting on 1/8th inch thick artist board. Animation Art Production codes. Everything is in excellent condition. Very reasonably priced at $1200
Disney Studios "The Rescuers" circa 1977. A truly amazing production cel of the Villain Medusa. Animation Art Cel is 16x13 inch, is in excellent condition. Animation Art Cel has extensive registration line beyond the image shown to the left. We have this piece matted to the lines used ON-Screen (image size of 11x8 inches). Piece has a Disney seal. I must note that most cels from the era were unfortunate laminated. Somehow this piece escaped that fate and is in perfect condition because of it. Grim Natwick 1890-1990 was truly one of the great animation art, artist who ever lived. He created the character of Betty Boop, probably the only female animated cartoon character to achieve world-wide popularity. When he came to Disney's for the sole purpose of helping to animate the lead character in the world's first feature cartoon, he was well over twice the age of most of his colleagues, and left the studio after Snow White, joining his former boss Max Fleischer for his first feature Gulliver's Travels. In order to make the different segment that were created separately, the Animation units had to be working from the same "model cel" in order to be consistence. This beautify painted cel is of the RARE character Peter Perfect. Cel size is 12 x 10 inches with no background. Cel is clear (you can see through it) other then the hand painted characters on the cel. Piece is in Good to Excellent condition which would be consistent with a cel of 35+ years of vintage.
